Ready to move?

The company is ready. The flights are booked. But are the founders ready to move? Owning a business and having permission to live and work in Albania are different questions.

Three questions

Think in three parts. Ownership concerns your interest in the company. Residence concerns your lawful stay. Work permission concerns the activities you may carry out. One answer does not automatically settle the others.

Same company. Different plans.

Our two founders own equal shares. One will relocate and run the business. The other will remain abroad and visit. Their company is the same. Their personal immigration assessment may be different.

Start with the person

Nationality matters. EU nationals who meet Albania's statutory conditions follow a registration framework rather than the usual residence or unique-permit route. Other nationalities may benefit from specific rules. Assess each person separately.

Entry is its own step

Check entry rules before travelling. Visa requirements depend on nationality, existing travel permissions, and the purpose of the visit. Permission for a short visit should not be treated as permission to settle and start work.

A genuine role

A founder genuinely employed by the Albanian company may qualify for an employment-based unique permit, combining residence and work authorisation. The role, contract and employer evidence must support a real arrangement. Check any applicable exemptions.

Choose the applicable route

Self-employment and investor residence are distinct routes with their own conditions. Incorporating a company does not automatically qualify you for either. Match the route to the actual activity, funding and role.

Prepare the evidence

Prepare the evidence early: identity, accommodation, insurance and documents supporting the chosen route. Foreign records may need translation, apostille or legalisation. Check the current checklist and document validity before arranging travel.

Coordinate the steps

Coordinate company setup, any required visa, and the relevant application. Confirm what you may do while the application is being reviewed. Before starting work, ensure the necessary permission and employment arrangements are in place.

Plan beyond approval

Approval begins an ongoing relationship with the rules. Track expiry dates, renewal requirements and relevant changes in your circumstances. If family members are moving too, assess their position as part of the plan.

One coordinated plan

Our founders can now plan around their actual roles. Ownership, residence and work: three questions, brought together before the move. The right sequence turns an intention into a workable plan.
