Your company is registered. What happens next?
Your company is registered in Albania. But who is checking the invoices, paying the taxes, and telling you how the business is performing? If you own the company from abroad, clear accounting gives you the information to stay in control.
Set up the essentials
Start with the essentials. Confirm the company's tax obligations, arrange access to the electronic systems, and set up accounting and invoicing before trading. Agree who sends the documents, who reviews the figures, and who approves payments. Keep company money separate from personal spending.
Connect invoices with the accounts
In Albania, fiscalisation is the system for issuing and reporting invoices electronically. Check which rules apply to your business. Keep invoices, contracts and bank records together. Each month, reconcile what you invoiced with what you received, and investigate missing documents or unexplained differences.
Check both filing and payment
Your tax calendar should reflect the obligations that apply to your company, including VAT, payroll and other taxes where relevant. Some deadlines are monthly; others follow a different timetable. A filed return is not proof of payment. Check both, and keep the confirmations.
Profit and cash are different
Profit and cash are different. A business can report a profit while waiting for customers to pay. Before paying suppliers or taking money out, review available cash, unpaid invoices and upcoming obligations. Payments to owners need the right legal and tax treatment.
Ask four questions every month
Ask for a short monthly report that answers four questions. Are we making a profit? How much cash is available? Who owes us money? And what must we pay next? Agree a reporting date and ask for explanations of unusual movements, in a language you understand.
Keep oversight from abroad
Living abroad should not mean losing oversight. Keep access to your records, set payment approval rules, and know who monitors official messages. Plan annual accounts and filings early. Cross-border payments and obligations in your home country may also need advice. Outsourcing the work does not remove management's responsibilities.
