Tax Controversy & Disputes
Handled by tax and legal together, from the first letter.
The tax authority has questions — an audit, an assessment, a position you know is wrong — and how you answer first will shape everything after. We defend taxpayers in Albania through audits, objections, appeals, and litigation, with tax and legal counsel acting as one from the opening letter.
What is conceded early is hard to recover later. We build the position from the first request for information, so the technical argument and the procedural strategy advance together toward the best available outcome.
What we advise on.
Audit management
We manage tax audits from the opening request, controlling the flow of information and framing the issues. How an audit is handled at the start often determines its result.
Objections & appeals
We prepare and pursue administrative objections and appeals through the Tax Appeals Directorate. A well-built appeal is grounded in the record made during the audit.
Litigation
We represent you before the administrative courts where a matter cannot be resolved administratively. We prepare litigation thoroughly, which strengthens every earlier stage.
Voluntary disclosures
We advise on and make voluntary disclosures to regularize a position on the best available terms. Coming forward deliberately is usually better than being found.
Penalty mitigation
We challenge and mitigate penalties where there are grounds. Penalties are frequently reducible when the right arguments are made.
Settlement
We negotiate resolutions with the authority where settlement serves your interests. The commercial answer and the legal answer are weighed together.
How we work with you.
Our tax and legal teams act as one from the first letter, so the substantive position and the procedure are never out of step. We tell you candidly where you stand and what the realistic range of outcomes is.
Senior counsel runs the matter through every stage, giving you consistency and a clear strategy. You face the authority prepared, not reactive.
You are under audit or have received an assessment.
You disagree with the authority and need to appeal.
You need to regularize a position before it is found.
Audits, assessments, the taxpayer's rights, objections, and appeals are governed by Law No. 9920/2008 "On Tax Procedures". An administrative appeal is made first to the Tax Appeals Directorate and, if unresolved, to the administrative courts, each within strict time limits that make early, prepared engagement essential.
